Clientβs Core Problems & DesiresΒ Β
The customer desired a workplace that was not the norm of the traditional business environment. Most notably, the need was to create space which was productive and at the same time artistic and friendly.
They wanted:
-
A sort of industrial-modern style that is suspended in between primitive beauty and the refined professionalism.
-
A scheme that leaves the locality open, easy to collaborate and comfortably sound-proofed and spacious.
-
Health and beauty: Nature-inspired design.
The problem was to convert the open large workspace into a functional area, which was quiet and still attractive.Β Β
Project ScopeΒ Β
Areas that are to be covered: Open workstations, meeting zones, acoustic pods and lounges.
Core Focus:Β
-
Industrialβmodern look.
-
Natureβinspired elements.
-
Soundβcontrol.
The fluid movement of space and equalized illumination.
Β Difficulties We Experienced as a Design Team
-
Roughness vs. comfort: The bare ceiling and ultra-high-end finishing needed to be harmonized, thus, we provided a layer of material that made the appearance clean and useful.
-
Acoustic and lighting control: The open ceiling subjected technical restraints and necessitated good sound planning and location of lights in order to prevent congestion and control of the mood.
-
Rendering and Technical Delays: During the design development the textures were forgotten during rendering and this led the entire process of re rendering complex 3D models which was a time consuming process and required a lot of research and attention to the realism of materials.
-
Zoning & Spatial Equilibrium: The sense of openness and a necessity to introduce a bit of focus areas (pods, corners of meetings) preconditioned an intuitive zoning which was possible to be achieved by minor changes in density of materials and light.
Where Our Ideas Failed (And How We Handled It)Β Β
Issue: All the data of the texture was lost in the rendering process.
Impact: Long operation and the surface materials and finishes cannot be rebuilt immediately but rather have to be recovered through rebuilding.
Solution: Done deep investigation into every asset and their real-life characteristics; collaboration with the team members made the process outline and impose textures with an even greater accuracy.
Lesson Learned: It should always take the care of keeping back up of render assets and documentation that can be recovered in lower time periods should there be lost data.
Why Our Design WorkedΒ Β
-
-
The open space enhances spatial freedom and collaboration with the preservation of areas of privacy with acoustic pods and the element of material contrasts.
-
Black ductwork and deeply pierced ceilings are exposed to give it a sense of industry, counterbalanced by wood flooring and light accent walls made of brick, to soften the eyes.
-
Round and linear LED lamps provide homogenous lighting and mark space areas in a pleasing way.
-
The representation of the biophilic engineering, with the help of dark wood planters, adds the fresh touch of the organic environment, increasing the comfort of the visual perception and the quality of air.
-
The communal lounge, with its softy off-white sofa and scribbling and coffee-table-bookshelf wooden combination gives it a homely human touch.
